Swim Lessons at the YMCA of South Boston/Halifax County
The Y is the starting point for many youth to learn about becoming active and developing healthy habits they'll carry throughout their lives. And the benefits are far greater than just physical health. Whether it's gaining the confidence that comes from learning to swim or building the positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship, participating in swimming at the Y is about building the whole child. It is a life skill as well as great exercise and a challenging sport. The Y offers swim lessons for all ages and abilities, so we can all safely enjoy the pleasures of the water.
Swimming lessons include:
- How to stay safe in the water
- Various swim strokes (development and refinement)
- Confidence and self-esteem development
- The Y's values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith
- Teamwork and helping others
- Class fellowship and bonding
Each session consists of five 45-minute lessons; children are placed in classes based on skill level. A low student-teacher ratio allows children to safely develop skills and confidence in the water.
Class days and times vary by season. Please check with YMCA member services for schedule.
Private swim lessons are also available. Six 30-minute sessions: $80 Members; $150 Nonmembers
